Starting a Picture Frame Collage

Is there anything better than a sale at a Thrift Store? I don't think there is. I got all of these frames from Goodwill during their Friday Fever Sale. This sale is every single Friday and everything in the store is 50% off!! It is amazing. I got all of these frames for $12.50!  Uou just cant beat it.

Now I got these prints from Ikea years ago, but they always have amazing cheap art and prints. I don't think I spent more than $4.99 for a pack of 5 post card size prints.

Then I just put the prints in the frame and played around with several different ways to hang the pictures on the floor until I found one that I liked.

I put the frames all 3" apart from each other. Also I made sure I can add to the design when I run into more great finds in the future.
Under $20.00.   I have started my collage of frames.

Kitchen Reno Contiuned

So we have ordered the cabinet that is going under the microwave and was suppose to be delivered next week, but we just got a call that it will be delayed another two weeks... That is bad news because we ordered our counter tops and it's supposed to be here in a week. So we can't install the counter top without the cabinet. So I decided that now would be a good time to paint the walls, ceiling, trim, and put a fresh coat on the cabinets to freshen them up.

Preparing for painting mayhem.

This is a really amazing paint.   It had a melamine finish which looks amazing on cabinets. We had previously painted our cabinets with and oil based paint and as some may know they are not making oil paint anymore. So we were scared that we were going to have to sand all of these cabinets back to the wood :( BUT we found out about this paint and all you have to do is roughen the surface and start painting. It turned out amazing!

Notice anything different? New stove maybe? We got that stove from Kijiji (where else?) for $800.00. Its really nice and it is hard to find a stove without a back on it that is affordable, but we did!

The paint on the walls are a very light grey from C.I.L called Silver Quill. It really lightens up the whole kitchen and it looks amazing with the tile we chose for the back splash and the flooring. So exciting!

So next on the list is installing the cabinet (that is on back order) then paint the new cabinet white, then we can install the counter top. Also somewhere in there we need to purchase new light fixture, pot lights for above the sink, new switch covers, new faucet, etc.

Update on Kitchen Reno

We have broken soil. So when I was at work my lovely significant other got to work on extending the bulk head over to where our new cabinets will be going.

Then when I was away again, he dry walled it and mudded it. Looks pretty good other than the obvious colour difference.

Before we went crazy and ripped some stuff out.

After we went crazy and ripped out the cabinet that will be reused under the new bulkhead and the over the range microwave which is put up for sale on Kijiji. Also we will be selling our Stove, Fridge, Reverse Osmosis and dishwasher.

Here is the cabinet that was above the stove with a little modification to fit our new microwave.

Cabinet installed. Looking good

New microwave in. Obviously in need of some paint but other than that I think this idea is coming together.

Also we needed to move the exhaust vent over a little to the left so it would be center above the stove.

This is our new to us fridge. We bought this fridge from Kijiji for $600.00 and it looks amazing. Going to look a lot better when we get the rest of the appliances and change the finishings of this kitchen. Its just getting so exciting.

Dining Room Update

These are just some of the ideas (dreams) I have for our dining room area which is right off of the kitchen. Now it is mostly a blank slate and it needs to tie into the new kitchen colour skeam. So since the kitchen is mostly going to be grey and white I want to try and add some decor options that will compliment the kitchen and add to the dining room. Here are just a few of my ideas (dreams) to try an tie these two spaces together.

#1 Springfield Linen Shade Chandelier 5 Light from Shades of Light $559.00

#2 Trellis Linen Drum Shade Pendant from Shades of Light $179.00

#3 24" Chain Links Drum Pendant Chandelier from Shades of Light $599.00

#4 Double Drum Pendant-Large from Shades Of Light $549.00

#5 White four Light 24" Wide Pendant Chandelier from Lamps Plus $279.99

Rugs Direct Momeni Elements EL-29 Grey

Handmade Soho Chrono Grey/Ivory New Zealand Wool Rug from Overstock $139.48

Horizon Rugs Casablanca World Classic Geometric Bluefish Grey / Beige Contemporary Rug - 19072 by WayFair $229.00

Couristan Transitional Five Seasons Sorrento / Cream - Black Outdoor Rug from Way Fair
Big Fish Art Felt Interlocking Blue I Wall Art collection fromWayfair

Since I am changing the colour and updating the kitchen I need to tie in the Dining room as well. I have a perfect wall to make an accent wall with this beautiful wallpaper with grey and beige.
This was when we first moved in, it looks a lot different now. The wall on the left is the one I
would like to wall paper.
Then I would like to move the light fixture above the table to the front entrance (shown below)

And who doesn't love a ceiling medallion?

Kitchen Reno

So when we first moved into our house our poor little kitchen needed some attention and by attention I mean major work. The only problem was we were first time home owners and the cost of owning a house put a dent into our savings. So we decided that we would paint the kitchen cupboard doors to give it a cheap update. This cost us very little for some paint and new hardware. We both decided that when we had some more money we would add some cabinets, update the back splash, new flooring, paint the walls, new light fixture, new appliances, and a range hood. Well we have some money to
work with so these dreams are sadly way out of reach...But there is always a solution. We are going to add one cabinet move some things around, range hood, counter top, back splash, and new floor. Now I know what you are thinking...."Did you win the lottery?" No sadly we didn't but we are going to do everything in steps to break up the cost and time to do everything. Also we are going to do as much as we can ourselves to clearly save on money. So we kind of have a plan.

Doors off.

The mayhem

It was a long night.
After all of that it looks a lot better!

We still had to add a pantry for storage. We bought it for around $100.00 at Canadian Tire. It was always the plan to add more cabinets.

This is a very rough idea of what we would like to change. We have ordered a new base cabinet for the far left and then plan to move the cabinet above the stove and microwave over to the left as well. We just ordered the counter top it will be here in 1 month. Then we will be installing a range hood (I guess we need to buy one first ;) Eventually we would like to also install a pantry on the very left, but we got a quote for one and it was going to cost over $1000.00. So we decided to wait and when we do decide we need one, it will be easy to install.
#1. Order base cabinet $471.00 at Lowes
#2. Order Counter top $      at HomeDepot
#3. Order flooring
#4. Extend Bulk head on the left.
#5. Move cabinet above stove to the left.
#6. Install base cabinet.
#7. Remove old back splash
#8. Install counter top
#9. Put in new floor
#10. Put in new back splash
#11. Install the range hood.
Now you might be asking why we choose to do this in this order, well I will tell you why. We need some help with installing the back splash and range hood (we are much to scared to do this stuff cause it is way to expensive to screw it up) My soon to be father in law will be coming down in July to do these two things, he is a contractor.
Bye bye old kitchen! Hello reno stress?!?

Kitchen Wish List

so after a year and a half we finally decided to work on it. Here are just a few of the ideas i have to spruce the kitchen.

Kitchen before

Kitchen Before

Kitchen after we painted the cabinets and changed the hardware.. Its still tiny

These are the cabinet doors we had previously. Just need a coat of white paint and they will match the rest of the kitchen.

These tiles were from Lowes for $15.98

Tiles also from Lowes for $15.98
I don't know where i found these tiles but this is the look we are going for.

These floor tiles are from Home Depot and can you believe that they are Vinyl stick on tiles? I have some big ideas for these guys.

Pot lights for above the sink.

Ceiling light fixture. I just love it! Also from Lowes.

We just bought this range hood at Costco for $179.00!! What a steal!

So now I am for sure in dream la la land, but hey a girl can always have a dream. Obviously these babies are not in the budget but a girl can dream. I think I am going to check out Craigslist and Kijiji first.

Also dreaming, I think I will be okay with a fridge that is big enough and is stainless steal. So looks like I will be looking on Craigslist and Kijiji for this stuff too.

I love this look, but not the price. I think this faucet is over $300.00 at Home Depot. I will be looking for a sweet deal before I pull the trigger on one of these bad boys.
