DIY wedding cupcake stand and Hydrangea cupcakes

Some garage sale plates and candle holders from the dollar store were transformed into a beautiful cupcake stand for Laura's wedding on Saturday.  Just one of the many projects that she completed.  The wedding was very "Laura" and her signature touch of creating something from nothing was in great abundance.

The plates were graduated sizes and the one on the bottom had its own pedestal and were all of hammered aluminum eliminating the need for spray paint.

My Sister, Laura's Mom, had made the cupcakes ahead and frozen them.  Then it was time to decorate.  With lots of ideas from Pinterest we decided to tackle the hydranges and found an awesome pin.  Barb had made Buttercream frosting, and with icing bags and 1G tips we set to making the flowers.   Another tip from Pinterest was to put the icing in saran and then in the piping bag so that you didn't have the mess in the bags. First we laid out a piece of Saran Wrap.   We "painted" a stripe of yellow gel and a stripe of green gel on the other side, and then put a large dollop of icing in the middle, wrapped the Saran over the icing and placed the "wrapped" icing into the icing bag.  With the stripes of colour, the overall effect was Hydrangea flowers with varying degrees of colour on the tip of each petal.  a 1/4 turn of the bag meant that the placement of colour was varied on each cupcake.

Amazingly in an hour we had all of the cupcakes iced and the results were stunning. Just like flowers, no two were alike but the overall look on Laura's do it yourself cupcake stand looked fabulous.

Beautiful real Hydrangeas from the garden and the look was complete.

Congratulations Laura and Jared!
